My Background

I am a New York and Maine Relational Psychotherapist with over 30 years experience helping clients gain more effective coping skills in managing stress, depression and anxiety.

My Early Background

I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from New York University and went on for an MSW at Columbia University. After graduating, I took a clinical social work position at a mental health clinic where I was responsible for treating children, adolescents and adults who presented with a range of psychological issues across the spectrum. I became experienced in assessment and diagnosis as well as formulating treatment plans.

After nine years, my interest in human behavior and pathology sparked a desire for further training. I started to depart from the more traditional psychoanalytic perspectives of my supervisors at the clinic and wanted a more eclectic grounding in the theoretical models of the mind.

Postgraduate Training

I embarked on a personal and professional journey with postgraduate training at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. This was a four year immersive program in treating patients in their clinic, challenging classes in theory and practicum, supervision and personal twice weekly analysis. I graduated in 1989 with a Certificate in Psychoanalysis and Comprehensive Psychotherapy.

This naturally led to a compelling interest in how a clinician in the mental health field transitions into a psychotherapist. While still working in my private practice I took on the challenge of a two year program to be certified as a supervisor in Psychoanalysis and Comprehensive Psychotherapy in 1999.

Faculty and Supervisor

I became a faculty member and supervisor at The National Institute for the Psychotherapies where I supervised MSW students from NYU doing their practicum at our clinic as well as candidates in the Comprehensive Training Program. I also supervised and taught courses at The Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center in NYC.

Over time there has been a turning toward a Relational model of understanding the human mind. I have studied with many of the prominent leaders of Contemporary relational theorists including Stephen Mitchell, Donnell Stern, Jessica Benjamin, James Fossaghe, Jody Davies. Currently, I have a practice in New York City and Portland, Maine and on the faculty of The Stephen Mitchell Relational Study Center.

I offer supervision for therapists wanting to deepen their work with clients from a relational perspective.
